Keys to a Healthy Breakfast

What Makes a Breakfast Healthy?

We have all heard the classic saying “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, which can be true. Starting the day the right way with your first meal is key to getting your body ready for the day and setting the tone for how you are going to eat the rest of the day.

But what makes a breakfast healthy? Let’s take a look into some things that are great additions to your breakfast to set you up for success-

Protein- A good rule of thumb is to try to get 35% of your daily protein intake in that first meal of the day. Doing this makes it a lot easier to have an evenly distributed protein intake throughout the day rather than having to backload your later meals with protein.

Some good examples of high protein breakfast foods include eggs/egg whites, beef chorizo, turkey/chicken sausage, and greek yogurt.

Fiber- Carbohydrates that are rich in fiber are great options to include in a breakfast. Some of my favorites include berries, chia seeds, whole grain/sourdough toast, oatmeal and sweet potatoes.

Healthy Fats– Many people see fats as unhealthy, which can be true. Which is why it is vital to go with healthier fat options to help sustain energy throughout the day.

Good options include greek yogurt, cheese, avocado, eggs, chia seeds, and nuts.

Final Thoughts

Having a good combination of protein, fiber and healthy fats are key ingredients to all healthy meals. Starting your day with these is so important when it comes to fueling yourself for the day ahead, hitting your intake goals and feeling more full for longer periods of time.

Getting creative with your breakfast food when it comes to recipes can make this a lot more enjoyable. With that being said, I want to hear from you! What are some of your favorite breakfast recipes? Let me know below-
