Across the board, professional sports have the most impressive athletes that we will ever see. Seeing the size, strength, and speed of these individuals in real time is truly impressive. But if you had to narrow it down, which sport would you say has the best overall athletes?
Let’s start with how we would describe a “great” athlete. To me, when looking at athleticism you are looking at a combination of someone’s speed, strength, agility, jumping ability, endurance and coordination. Obviously in a lot of sports, some of these attributes are a lot more sought after than others. For example, jumping ability is not going to be nearly as important in baseball as it is basketball. In this article, I will identify which sport typically has the most players who display the highest level of each of these qualities.
To me, there are two sports that I believe stand out from the rest as far as athleticism goes- basketball and football. In both of these sports you need great speed, agility, strength and endurance. Between these two, I think I am going to give the edge to basketball players. The thing with basketball that is different from football is that you must be able to do everything on the floor at all times, there are no positions where you specialize in certain things. For example, I think wide receivers are without a doubt some of the most impressive athletes in the world because they must have all these traits of great athletes, but if you look at offensive and defensive linemen they are typically focused on their strength, endurance and agility. In basketball, you must be able to defend, handle the basketball, be an offensive threat and rebound at all times and doing these things definitely puts these athletic qualities on full display. This makes basketball players more well rounded athletes in my opinion.

I’m always impressed by TEs — the best are both fast and agile like WRs but also bigger guys who can help block when necessary. It’s truly athletic to be agile & large at the same time!
Endurance though… gotta look at soccer or tennis players (who are basically sprinting and on their toes the entire game)

Very true, a lot of impressive athletes at that position.
Yep, a lot of constant movement for both of those!
