Work and Workout???

Let’s face it, it is not easy to stay in shape. Life can be busy and it can be very difficult to find the time. I was laid off for about 3 months with the struggles of the tech industry and this was my first week starting a new job, it is tough. Having the energy to work a 9-5 and still make it to the gym is no easy task, but it is possible to stay in shape. Granted, I don’t have nearly as many responsibilities as many, so I usually am still able to make it to the gym. But making it to the gym is not always what staying in shape looks like. Staying in shape can look like you realizing that you are too tired to make it to the gym that day and going for a 25 min walk instead. Staying in shape can look like skipping the gym to go play pickleball with your friends. Staying in shape may even be giving yourself the day off to recharge your batteries so you can be ready to get back at it tomorrow.

My biggest piece of advice when it comes to the struggle of staying in shape with a packed schedule would be to not let a bad day ruin your journey. It is okay to take a day to recover, but be sure to get back on track. Easier said than done at times, but you will be glad you went once you’re done. I’m not sure about you, but the feeling of walking out of the gym after a hard workout is top notch.

I would also suggest prepping. To feel ready for my day I prep my breakfast, lunch, snacks, pre-workout and protein shake. I have learned that a workout on an empty stomach sucks so I bring as much food as I can to work and actually end up bringing half of it back home. Hey, better to be safe than sorry, right?

Those are the two things that I suggest when it comes to fighting through a busy schedule. I know it can be tough, but staying fit comes in a lot of forms, it doesn’t need to be perfect every day. Stay consistent and when it gets hard, remember what your goals are. Why you are prioritizing your health. We can do it.
