Balancing a healthy life and all of your responsibilities is no easy task. With work, family, friends socializing, and many other things requiring our attention, how are we supposed to make it to the gym every day? The answer is, you’re not! A lot of people think hitting the gym 7 days per week is required to see results but that is absolutely not true. I typically try to make it to the gym 5 times per week but that even that doesn’t happen every week. What I suggest to make up for the days you may not be up for getting to the gym is finding activities that you enjoy and get you up and moving.

For example, some of the things that I love to do to stay active when I’m not hitting the gym is hiking, playing some hoops, golfing, and a new favorite of mine is pickle-ball! Being a retired (washed up) athlete I still love playing sports as much as I can. I picture sports as a way to get a great workout in without even realizing you are. The other day, I was just shooting hoops and I looked down at my Apple Watch and saw I burned almost 300 calories which shocked me. Hiking (pictured above) is another favorite of mine. Luckily I have been blessed to live in 3 cities with absolutely gorgeous hiking trails; Seattle, Boise and now Phoenix. A peaceful walk with good company and a great view cannot be beat in my opinion. But that is enough about me, what are your favorite things to do to stay active when the gym just ins’t happening that day? Let me know in the comments below!
