It is very important to know what you’re putting into your body, and frankly a lot of the supplements that are available can have some sketchy things in them that can cause more harm than anything else. I realize that a lot of you choose to use a lot of supplements and there is nothing wrong with that, I just encourage you to do YOUR OWN research on each product you purchase. If you go to buy supplements in stores some sales people will say whatever it takes to sell a product, so I suggest going in listening and taking note of the products that they suggest, then going home and doing your own research on the product to make sure that it is something that you really understand and want. It is also important to understand that workout supplements are not a necessity. Supplements are meant to give you a slight edge but are not required for you to improve your fitness. I generally like to keep it pretty simple when it comes to supplements and stick to pre-workout, protein powder and creatine.
- PRE-WORKOUT- I typically do not need much of an energy boost when it comes to working out, so I typically look for a pre-workout that offers something other than caffeine. The pre-workout that I get the most frequently is Essential Amino Energy from Optimum Nutrition. I like this product because it has a decent amount of caffeine at 100mg and a good amount of amino acids at 5g. Amino Acids are very important because they promote lean muscle growth, increase your muscle endurance during your workout, and help your muscles recover after your workout by decreasing soreness. This is my usual go-to workout, but on the days where I do need a bigger energy boost I will switch it up and get a Bang Energy Drink. This product offers a lot more caffeine and creatine which will give you that energy to power through your workout on those days where you may be a little drained and not feel like being active.
- PROTEIN POWDER- Protein is very important after a workout because it is a main building block of muscles and many other vital things in your body. When it comes to a particular brand I don’t really have a preference. I generally switch up the protein powder i use in accordance with my goals. For example, i am currently trying to get lean for the summer so I am currently using a protein that is high in protein and low in calories. However, during the winter when I am trying to gain mass I usually use a meal replacement or gainer protein that is high in carbs, protein and calories. When deciding on protein powder it is important to think of your goals and look at the nutrition facts.
- CREATINE MONOHYDRATE- A lot of people are very skeptical of creatine but it is a safe supplement as long as you are drinking plenty of water while taking it. Creatine helps your muscle cells produce more energy so you can make the most of your workouts, and also speed up your muscle growth. Many have studied creatine for a very long time and agree that the benefits can be very helpful while there is minimal risk.
